Cognitive Quantum Tunneling in Belief Alteration

Abstract: The present research revisits the boundaries between quantum mechanics, biological systems and the cognitive structuring of beliefs, taking as a pillar the theoretical propositions of Amit Goswami’s monistic idealism. The primary scope lies in articulating how the counterintuitive behaviors of subatomic physics provide a non-dualistic framework for phenomena previously restricted to spiritual and philosophical thought. Methodologically, an integrative analysis of the seminal works that postulate the primacy of consciousness was carried out, juxtaposing them with recent empirical findings in the fields of quantum biology and neuroscience. The evidence collected indicates that the occurrence of quantum tunneling in organic environments—notably in enzyme activity, photosynthetic pathways, DNA dynamics, and microtubule architecture—provides a viable material infrastructure for high-order cognitive processing. It is argued, as a central thesis, that belief matrices operate as conditioned quantum configurations in the neural network. Consequently, its profound modification requires cognitive tunneling mechanisms, inducing “quantum jumps” that break with the prevailing perceptual patterns. In this arrangement, the creative faculty acts as the vector that makes this transition possible, attenuating the resistance of consolidated beliefs and opening access to a non-local spectrum of potentialities. It is concluded that the synthesis between Goswami’s cosmology and Hameroff and Penrose’s microtubular theory erects a solid epistemological model, in which consciousness acts as an orchestrator of phenomenal reality, substantially altering our understanding of the plasticity of beliefs and creative genesis.
